As an independent consultant in Washington
DC, Sarah has most recently worked for The Alice Ferguson
Foundation engaging large businesses in the “Trash
Free Potomac Watershed Initiative”- a comprehensive
framework of community partnerships working towards a trash-free
Potomac River by 2013.
From 2002 to 2006, Sarah was at Conservation International
working in the Center for Environmental Leadership in Business
(CELB). Sarah focused in the Caribbean and Andes regions
on tourism destination partnerships, engaging major cruise
lines, hotels, and outbound tour operators to address local
sustainability issues. A global focus for Sarah was
encouraging marine recreation providers to improve their
environmental performance. She also managed the creation
of sustainability guidelines for the siting, design, and
construction of hotels and resorts.
Before CELB, Sarah worked at the Coalition for Environmentally
Responsible Economies (CERES) for three years, where she
launched the Green Hotel Initiative—catalyzing the
hotel industry to improve its environmental performance through
market demand and disclosure. Sarah also managed the
development of sustainability reporting guidelines for the
tour operator industry under the Global Reporting Initiative. Sarah
graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Natural
Resources.
